Limited edition print of Jim Morrison by photographer Art Kane taken in a Los Angeles hotel in 1968.
Art Kane and Jim Morrison instantly formed a connection, delving into discussions on culture, literature, and current events during the photoshoot. Kane shot Jim Morrison for Life Magazine's 'New Rock' photo essay within the confines of Morrison's room at the Chateau Marmont hotel in L.A. In a creative twist, Kane had an electrician relocate the television into the closet, instructing Morrison to kneel behind it and change channels. The final chosen image featured the enigmatic rock star with a blond starlet showing on the TV. Reflecting on the process, Kane recalled, "A light went on in my hotel closet when I opened the door. It cast a peculiar shadow, creating a lifeless chamber. Noticing the TV, I instinctively moved it into the closet. I envisioned Jim Morrison kneeling behind it, the tube suggesting an x-ray image of his nerve center—his thoughts."
The print is accompanied by an official Art Kane Estate document that is stamped, dated, edition numbered, and countersigned for authenticity by Jonathan Kane, Art Kane's son and Director of the Art Kane Archive. The document is created on archival crack and peel paper and can be placed on the back of the image, or on the back of the frame at the client's discretion.
