Limited edition print of Bob Dylan photographed by Don Hunstein while recording his 5th studio album in Studio A, Columbia Recording Studios in New York City 1965.
Don Hunstein was Columbia Record’s main staff photographer for close to 30 years. Most of his career there involved photographing well-known recording artists on Columbia’s roster. As he became comfortable facing the famous names in the music world, putting both them and the newcomers at ease in his presence, he developed the ability to see into the character of his subjects and reflect what he saw in the photos he took.
Don Hunstein stated, “There was nothing metaphysical about what I did. I’d just like to think that I had a good eye for detail, that I captured the moment at hand. But mostly, I just did my job. I followed my guidelines, always. Discretion was the better part of valour. Shoot then disappear. I never photographed during takes. I never wanted to be in the way, to be intrusive. I hope I never was. I tried to create an atmosphere so the artist was relaxed and open. That was essential. That was key.” (extracts from Keeping Time: The Photographs of Don Hunstein by Jon Pareles)
The remaining prints in this edition come complete with a certified 'Don Hunstein Estate' stamp.
